  1. Whether your tailgate is manual or electric/powered.

  2. If you can see any part number on the existing strut.

  3. Length / mounting style (ends, bushings etc.).

⚠️ What to check / symptoms

You might need replacement if you notice:

  • Boot lid doesn’t stay open properly, sags or drops.

  • Struts feel weak, maybe with oil leakage or hissing.

  • The lid opens slowly or has uneven motion.

🔧 Replacement

Always check fitment with your VIN or exact year.

3 beeps is a diagnostic warning from the PowerTailgate ECU.
On the 2013 C4 Picasso II it means:

🚨 What the 3 beeps usually mean

  • The ECU tried to start the closing cycle but detected a fault.

  • Most common causes:

    1. Gas struts too weak → the motor senses overload, aborts, and beeps.

    2. Obstruction / pinch sensor triggered → system thinks something is in the way.

    3. Misalignment or calibration lost → tailgate not recognized in the “fully open” position.

    4. Wiring fault (broken loom, sensor not giving signal).

    5. Faulty powered strut (motor side, usually right).

🛠️ Quick things to try yourself

  1. Manual open/close reset

    • Open the boot fully by hand.

    • Hold the close button on the tailgate for 10–15 seconds until you hear a beep.

    • This “teaches” the ECU the top position.

    • Then try closing again with the button.

  2. Check for resistance

    • With ignition off, move the boot by hand.

    • If it feels very heavy / drops fast, the gas struts are weak and must be replaced.

    • The motor cannot compensate if they are gone.

  3. Check wiring at the top hinge (right side)

    • Gently peel back the rubber boot covering the loom.

    • If wires are cracked or broken → that interrupts position sensor or motor power.

  4. Check fuse

    • In the passenger compartment fusebox, look for the tailgate motor fuse (often F11 or F34 depending on version).

    • If blown, replace and test.

💡 Typical repair outcomes

  • If only struts are bad → replace both gas struts (~€60–100 aftermarket for the pair).

  • If motorized strut is bad → right powered strut replacement (part 9812129680) ~€250–350.

  • If wiring loom is broken → repair kit or soldering ~€50–120.

👉 Since your car does open but won’t close and gives 3 beeps, the most likely culprit is weak struts

classic failure around 8–10 years old

The system senses overload and aborts.
